Hi! My name is Patrick Warren, and I am currently a junior at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). I am double majoring in finance and accounting. Once I obtain my bachelor's degrees, I want to work in the financial sector as a stock analyst. Currently, I am on the CFA track at Virginia Tech, and I plan on taking the Level 1 exam in June of 2017.
I started investing three years ago after working as a lifeguard in the summer of 2013. I had $1,000 that I didn't know what to do with, so I was researching, and I saw some stocks (penny stocks) moving 50 percent or more on any given day. I thought, "If I could double my money every day, I would be rich!" Long story short, it didn't end well, and by the time I was finished, my initial $1,000 was $500. I learned my lesson, and I moved on to actual companies (many of the penny stocks I traded were pump & dumps). I now read through company annual and quarterly reports, develop my own ideas, and I read others' opinions on these companies.
"You can't be everything to everybody. Choose your niche. Specialize. Then relentlessly pursue your education. Put the time and effort in that others aren't willing to do. Don't stop until you're the smartest guy in the room in your field. The most successful companies focus on doing fewer things and doing them better than they've ever done before."
-Dr. Frederick Abeles
The quote above really got me interested in pursuing the offshore drillers. Of all the sectors/industries, this is the one that I followed the most, so I decided to make the offshore drillers my specialization. I feel that I can add value and help investors make more informed decisions before buying into any of the drillers. The fleet visuals convey the status of each rig of each driller; investors can see the day rates of each rig, how long their contracts last, and the visual really helps portray which companies are in (or will be in) healthy or struggling positions.
I plan to spend most of my researching time on the offshore drillers. I plan to learn as much as possible about them, and I hope to help investors out as much as I can doing this. All the work I do will be published, so everyone can use it.
Thank You for reading, and if you have any questions/comments, feel free to contact me!
